This is our original lens hood for the Elmar, featuring a brass black-dye retaining screw version. A hood with aperture control functionality, which has long been missing in the market, specifically designed for the A36-thread Elmar 50mm. It fits a wide range of Elmars, from the early 1920s versions to the red Elmar, and it can also be used without issues with the Elmar 35mm f3.5.
Since the sizes of various parts of the Elmar lens have changed over time, we gathered numerous models from the 1920s to the 1950s to determine the optimal size. All design, prototyping, and mass production were done in Japan, ensuring this is a genuine "Made in Japan" product.
This is a product that we, together with our staff, collaborating craftsmen, and customer feedback, have carefully developed over more than a year. The retaining screw features our shop's logo as a mark of authenticity and quality.
Thank you for the tremendous response! We're now on our fourth batch!
The design and engineering were done by "Nanigashi," well-known for their work with releases. The manufacturing and craftsmanship were provided by skilled artisans in Kawasaki, Takaoka, and Tsubame. The hood body is made of brass with black paint, crafted to evoke the tactile feel of classic Barnack and M-series Leicas.
You can choose between three types of retaining screws: brass raw, silver lacquer, or black dye, allowing for customization to suit your camera and lens. Each piece is carefully greased by a master lens technician in Ginza, with a specially formulated grease that has been fine-tuned for the right torque feel.
This hood enhances the pleasure of working with the classic Elmar lens by providing smooth, precise aperture control. We hope this brings even more happiness and joy to camera enthusiasts around the world.
