The Leica IIIg, the final model of the Barnack Leica series, bears the Leitz product code GOOEF. This unit, with a serial number in the 930,000 range, was manufactured in 1958. It belongs to the golden age of Leica cameras from the late 1950s, a period that saw the release of many iconic models like the Leica MP, M3 Black, Military Olive, and M2 Button.
The IIIg was designed and manufactured with an uncompromising dedication to quality. Just admiring its craftsmanship is a delight. It incorporates technology from the Leica M3, featuring parallax correction and built-in bright frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses. This makes it the easiest-to-use of all the Barnack Leica models.
There are a few minor scratches on the top plate near the film rewind knob, the viewfinder eyepiece, and next to the slow shutter speed dial. Additionally, there are two or three scuff marks on the bottom cover, but there are no dents, dings, or exposed brass. Overall, the camera's exterior is in very good condition.
The vulcanite covering is smooth to the touch and in excellent condition, with no chips, and remains fully original. The winding mechanism and shutter operate smoothly and flawlessly. There is some haze in the viewfinder caused by prism corrosion, resulting in a slightly dim view through the finder, which is a pity given the otherwise excellent condition of the camera. It is ready for practical use.
