Released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Leica's official distributor, the Schmidt Group, the Platinum Edition Leica M6 was introduced in 1996.
The M6 Platinum features a platinum plate similar to the M6 Platinum model. The Elmar-M 50mm f2.8 is also available in a platinum version. Both the camera and lens are numbered from 1 to 188. However, numbers containing the digit 4 are excluded, with a total of 150 units produced.
The Elmar 50mm lens also comes with a platinum-plated dedicated lens hood. The Leica catalog numbers are 10510 for the body and 11895 for the lens. A great addition to any collection!
The appearance is exceptionally clean with no noticeable signs of use. There are no indications of the hanging ring having been attached.
In December 2024, the viewfinder and rangefinder were disassembled and cleaned, and the lens underwent a full overhaul. The operation of all parts is smooth, and the viewfinder is crisp and clear. The Elmar lens is also in excellent condition, with perfect rangefinder coupling and smooth operation. The exposure meter works fine as well.
The set includes the lens hood, cap, a sturdy dedicated wooden box, warranty cards for both the body and lens, and the original outer box.
