Pancolar MC 80mm f1.8 A medium telephoto lens from East Germany’s Carl Zeiss Jena, manufactured in 1977. It features the highly versatile M42 mount. While the Pancolar 50mm f1.8 is commonly seen, other notable models include the radioactive glass 55mm f1.4 with its distinctive yellowish tint, the ultra-rare 75mm f1.4, and this 80mm f1.8.
This lens has a 6-element, 5-group design and features multi-coating (MC). It includes an automatic diaphragm and has a minimum focusing distance of approximately 80cm. The filter diameter is 58mm, and the weight is measured at 306g.
At maximum aperture, the center of the image plane delivers sharp rendering, creating a striking separation of the subject from its surroundings, enhanced by the smooth bokeh in front and behind the focus plane. With its 80mm focal length, the lens offers minimal distortion, combined with a pleasant amount of vignetting that adds a unique atmosphere to the image.
There are slight signs of use on the helicoid and aperture rings, but the black paint remains intact, giving the lens a relatively clean appearance.
Fully overhauled (OH) in January 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the operation of the aperture and helicoid rings is exceptionally smooth, far from the loose or rattling feel often associated with Pancolar lenses found on the market.
The glass condition is excellent, with no scratches or haze, providing crystal-clear optics. You can fully experience the lens's original image quality.
