※About rarity

Summicron 50mm f/2 Black Paint, fixed barrel, late type. Red scale. Serial number in the 1.95 million range, manufactured in 1962. This painted lens hails from the same era as Leica M3 and M2 Black Paint bodies in the 1.04–1.06 million serial number range.

It appears to have seen significant use over the years, with paint loss on the black enamel finish and fading on the black chrome areas. It would pair beautifully with well-worn black paint M3, M2, or M4 bodies.

Like many well-used Leica paint lenses, this one delivers exceptional performance in both focusing and image rendering. A fully original example.

There is paint loss visible on various parts of the lens, but no dents or major impact marks.

Fully overhauled in March 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the helicoid, aperture ring, and other controls now operate with outstanding smoothness.

There is slight balsam separation along the edge of an internal element, but it has virtually no effect on image quality. Apart from that, there are a few minor signs of coating wear, but no noticeable cleaning marks or haze—the glass is clear and bright. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on, and focusing is precise and confident, making shooting with this lens a real pleasure.

Includes black chrome front and rear caps.
