The first-generation Noctilux 50mm f/1.2. Leitz product code: 11820. This is an early version with a serial number in the 2.25 million range, manufactured in 1968.
Released in 1966, the Noctilux was the first Leitz lens to feature aspherical elements. It has a 4-group, 6-element optical design. Named after the Latin term for night light, the Noctilux was designed to capture images in extremely low light, delivering high contrast and rendering a unique visual world with its characteristic vignetting and distinctive bokeh.
There is some paint loss on the outer edge of the filter rim at the front of the barrel, as well as on the aperture ring and helicoid ring. However, there are no noticeable scratches or dents on the lens itself.
Includes the dedicated Noctilux 12503 hood, Series 8 UVa filter, and 14102P front cap. The hood shows evidence of a dent; while it has been carefully corrected, a slight distortion remains. This does not affect mounting or usage with the lens.
Fully overhauled in April 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, both the aperture and focusing helicoid operate smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The glass shows some coating deterioration on the inner elements. Additionally, there are numerous polishing marks—likely from hand polishing—around the rear element’s edge, spanning about 7–8mm in width. These do not significantly affect image quality, and test shots turned out well. We invite you to check out the sample images.
This lens is in a well-used but solid condition—perfect for those who want to actively enjoy shooting with the original Noctilux.
