※About rarity

W-Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, Nikon S-mount with external bayonet.
Released in September 1956.
Optical construction: 7 elements in 5 groups.
Distance scale in feet. Filter diameter: 43mm.

This lens gained high acclaim for its exceptional optical performance, achieved through the use of newly developed glass elements.
At the time of its release, it was the fastest wide-angle lens in the world.
It was later followed by other large-aperture wide-angle lenses, such as the Canon 35mm f/1.5 and the Summilux 35mm f/1.4.
The design was the work of Hideo Azuma, who also designed many notable lenses for both Nikon S-mount and Leica L-mount systems.

This particular lens bears the serial number 359xxx, making it a late-production example of the W-Nikkor 35mm f/1.8.
Notably, the letter C after W-Nikkor on the front engraving has been omitted, a detail typical of the later batches produced around 1961–1962.
The engraving style is also more modern compared to earlier versions.

Known for its finely detailed rendering and smooth, gentle bokeh, this lens produces images with a calm, refined atmosphere.
Its unique character has captivated many photographers—and our own Test Shoot Gallery director personally vouches for this gem of a lens.

The lens shows no signs of use and is in excellent cosmetic condition.
The optics are equally clean and well-preserved.
All controls—including the aperture and focusing rings—operate smoothly.
There are no noticeable scratches on the lens elements, and the glass is clear and bright, free of haze.

Please note: due to interference from the rear lens guard, this lens cannot be mounted on Leica bodies, even with an adapter.
However, it can be used without issue on mirrorless cameras such as the Sony α7 series, Nikon Z series, and Leica SL.

Comes with an original front cap and a third-party rear cap.

Test results were excellent—you’re welcome to check the sample images in our Test Shoot Gallery.
