Visoflex Elmar 65mm f3.5 and Helicoid 16464 set. This is the redesigned later version with a black chrome finish.
The Leitz catalog number is 11162. The lens number is in the 2.86 million range, made in Germany in 1977. It has a 3-group, 4-element construction. Filter size is E43. It features a preset aperture and a very convenient minimum focusing distance of about 15 cm, making it perfect for close-up photography enthusiasts.
The Visoflex Elmar 65mm is well-regarded for its image quality in both early and late versions, but this later version is even sharper and has higher contrast. It offers excellent resolution and color rendition. The recessed lens design eliminates the need for a hood, which is a nice bonus.
Originally designed to be mounted on a Visoflex and used with M-type Leica bodies via the 16464 helicoid, this lens can now be adapted for use on modern digital mirrorless cameras with a mount adapter, transforming it into an extremely versatile and mobile old lens!
The later version Elmar 65mm with a black barrel is somewhat rare.
Full overhaul in 2024. Both the lens and the helicoid ring show almost no signs of use, and the exterior is very clean. There is some wear on the black chrome section on the rear side of the lens (mount side), but since this part is hidden by the helicoid, it is not visible from the outside. Overall, it remains a beautifully preserved piece with a deep, rich black finish.
The aperture clicks feel pleasant, with smooth operation. It has none of the loose, rattling feel often found in Visoflex Elmars. The helicoid extends smoothly, providing a satisfying tactile experience.
There are no noticeable scratches or fogging on the glass, and the clarity is excellent. A Series 6 filter is included, so it's ready to be taken out for shooting as is.
