The very first Leica IIIf, code-named LOOHN by Leitz. The Leica IIIf started its serial numbers from #525001 in 1950, but this particular unit is the 304th IIIf made, with serial number #525304. While it looks similar to later IIIf models at first glance, many details differ upon closer inspection. Compare it with your own IIIf! - The shape of the synchro guide claw, characteristic of the IIIf, is flat, unlike later models, humorously referred to internationally as a flat dial instead of a black dial. - The serial number is marked with No. instead of Nr., consistent with earlier models like the IIIc and IIId, and the Germany inscription is also in an old font style, giving it a classical touch. - The viewfinder eyepiece is made of brass with black paint, not plastic, similar to the IIIc—again, quite classical. - The body's satin chrome finish is shinier and glossier compared to later IIIf models, adding to its classical allure. - The rewind A-R lever on the A side lacks a stopper pin. - The bottom cover lacks a film guide (bottom covers with guides do not fit), which is quite a significant point. - The film winding ASA indicator is marked ASA-WESTON instead of ASA-DIN. - According to the repair technician who performed the overhaul, the shutter dial's structure and the number of screws on the front plate differ from the regular IIIf. There seem to be even more minute details to discover. A joy to shoot with and fun to research. A wonderful addition to any collection! A rare find. There are light scuffs on various parts of the body, and some wear on the chrome plating, but there are no dents or dings. The vulcanite is intact and original, just as it was at the time of manufacture. The camera was serviced in April 2024. All parts are functioning smoothly, the viewfinder is very clear, and the contrast of the double images is excellent. This is a rare, early model Leica IIIf, well-suited for practical use. Ideal for those who want something different. A unique find.
