Visoflex Elmar 65mm f3.5 and helicoid 16464 set. This is the redesigned later version with a black finish.
Leitz catalog number is 11162. The lens serial number is in the 2,450,000 range. Made in Germany in 1970, it has a 3-group, 4-element design. The filter size is E43, and it features a preset aperture. With a minimum focusing distance of around 15cm, it’s a highly convenient lens. For those who enjoy close-up photography with Leitz lenses, this is an irresistible choice.
Both the early and later versions of the Viso-Elmar 65mm have a reputation for excellent image quality, but the later version is noted for being sharper and having higher contrast. The lens offers excellent resolution and good color rendering. The recessed design means no hood is needed, which is a nice bonus.
Originally, this lens was designed to be mounted on the Visoflex through the 16464 helicoid and used on M-mount Leica bodies. However, with modern adapters, it can now be mounted on digital mirrorless cameras, transforming it into a highly versatile vintage lens with excellent mobility!
The black-barrel later version of the Elmar 65mm is somewhat rare.
The lens is in relatively good condition with minimal signs of use. There are only minor paint losses on the edges of the aperture ring and helicoid ring. It's in a practical condition that you can use with ease.
Both the lens and helicoid ring underwent a full overhaul in September 2024. Thanks to careful maintenance, the operation of the aperture and helicoid has become remarkably smooth. The silky operation stands in stark contrast to the loose, rattling feel often found in typical Viso Elmars, offering a much more satisfying experience.
There are a few very light cleaning marks and small spots of coating wear on the front element, but they should not affect image quality. There is no haze present.
Comes with the original front cap.
