※About rarity

This is a late model Leica A from 1930, with a serial number in the 50,000 range, which was later upgraded by Leitz to a DII and subsequently to an IIf.

Genuine factory-upgraded units like this one utilized special upgrade parts supplied by Leitz, ensuring that standard DII or IIf components were not simply installed into the original A body. This highlights the meticulous customer care provided by Leitz at the time.

The result is a unique hybrid: a compact Leica A/DII-sized body with the internals of an IIf. Featuring a semi-chrome finish in black and chrome, this camera pairs beautifully not only with a Red Elmar but also with lenses like the Summarit, collapsible Summicron, or Summilux.

Notably, this model includes strap lugs, which were absent on the A and DII models, making it a practical choice. Perfect for the enthusiast who wants a Leica that stands out from the crowd.

Over 30 years ago, this particular unit was purchased by one of our customers from a renowned vintage Leica shop in Germany. It boasts nearly a century of history, including its original factory upgrade.

The top cover shows minor paint wear, revealing the brass beneath, but there are no dents or major blemishes. The result is a camera with a wonderfully aged patina and a truly charming character.

In 2023, it underwent a full overhaul, including shutter curtain replacement. Thanks to careful servicing, all operations are smooth, and the viewfinder offers a crisp and clear view.

Equipped with diopter correction and strap lugs, this Barnack Leica is an ideal choice for those who don’t require slow shutter speeds but value timeless craftsmanship.
