A Visoflex Elmar 65mm f3.5 lens paired with the 16464 helicoid. This is the redesigned later version with a black chrome finish.
Leitz catalog number: 11162.
Lens serial number: in the 2.86 million range.
Manufactured in Germany in 1977.
The lens features a 3-group, 4-element optical construction, an E43 filter size, and a preset aperture. With a minimum focusing distance of approximately 15cm, it is an incredibly versatile lens—perfect for those who love close-up photography.
Both the early and later versions of the Viso-Elmar 65mm are highly regarded for their image quality, but the later version is even sharper with higher contrast. It offers excellent resolution and rich colors. Additionally, the recessed front element eliminates the need for a lens hood, which is a convenient feature.
Originally designed to be mounted on a Visoflex system via the 16464 helicoid for use with Leica M cameras, this lens can now be adapted for digital mirrorless cameras, transforming it into a highly versatile and mobile vintage lens.
The black-barrel later version of the Elmar 65mm is relatively rare.
The mount shows slight marks from attachment and removal, typical of use, but both the lens and helicoid ring exhibit minimal signs of wear, maintaining a very clean appearance. The black finish remains deep and rich, making this a truly beautiful piece overall.
Fully overhauled in 2024, the aperture clicks remain satisfyingly crisp, and all movements are exceptionally smooth. Unlike many Viso-Elmar lenses that tend to feel loose or rattly, this one operates with remarkable precision. The helicoid extends effortlessly with a pleasing, fluid feel.
The glass is free of any noticeable scratches or haze, offering a crystal-clear view.
A Series 6 filter is included, allowing you to take it straight out for shooting.
The results of actual shooting tests were excellent. While the sample images are from a previous sale, we invite you to check out the test gallery for reference.
