Leica M3 Early Model, Double Stroke with Buddha Ear lug. Manufactured in 1955. This early M3 has no frame selector lever, giving it a clean, streamlined appearance. Features include a glass pressure plate, ASA sensitivity up to 200, and the characteristic small black dot on the inner side of the back door. It’s a model that still strongly exudes the atmosphere of the earliest M3s.
The double-stroke M3 has a distinctive rhythm, with a satisfying click-click during film advance.
This is a particularly clean example, with all original parts, including the leather.
It was used by a customer until recently and remains in excellent working order. The exterior shows a slight dent near the front left of the top cover close to the R-lever, and some minor scuffs on the baseplate, but for an early M3, it’s in overall beautiful condition.
In October 2024, maintenance was performed on the viewfinder, and all parts were inspected. The advance lever and other components operate very smoothly with a pleasant feel. The viewfinder is also crisp and clear, making this double-stroke M3 a joy to use.
