Dedicated Hood for the Legendary Summilux 35mm f/1.4 1st Version — a.k.a. Steel Rim
Renowned not only for its performance but also for the beautiful way it complements the lens when mounted.
Leitz product code: OLLUX. The later version was assigned code 12522H. Among collectors and enthusiasts, it is affectionately referred to as OLLUX.
This example is the earlier OLLUX-engraved version (later ones are marked 12522H), specifically the second iteration featuring arrow engravings on both sides. Its stylish design and precision construction perfectly complement the look and character of the early Summilux.
The hood is secured by two small clips on the inside, which lock into a groove around the outer edge of the steel rim lens. To remove it, you twist the hood slightly along the circumference and it comes off.
However, this design tends to leave small marks on the lens rim each time it's attached or removed, and the hood can fall off if rotated unintentionally — a charming flaw of the system. No other Leica hood before or since has used this same mechanism (for better or worse!).
There is very slight paint loss on the front edge of the hood and around the mounting area, but overall it remains in excellent condition.
Fit has been confirmed on the lens — it attaches securely with a slightly tight feel.
Like the lens itself, this hood is also quite rare.
