Nikkor-P.C 8.5cm f2. This is an early model with a white barrel and Nikon S mount, featuring external bayonet. The Nikkor 85mm was introduced in 1948 and has a 5 elements in 3 groups Sonnar-type design with a filter diameter of 48mm. The helicoid's distance scale is a rare metric version.
At wide open, the lens produces a slightly soft image while maintaining rich gradation and high contrast, delivering stunning results. When stopped down to around f4, the vignetting diminishes, resulting in uniform rendering and increased contrast, transforming into sharp images.
This lens is historically significant as it was praised by D.D. Duncan, who used it during the Korean War, showcasing the excellence of Japanese-made lenses to the world. You can enjoy it with modern mirrorless digital cameras via an adapter.
The helicoid ring shows minor scratches from use, but aside from this, the overall appearance is good. In October 2024, a full overhaul was performed on the lens head. All operational aspects are in excellent condition, and the rangefinder coupling is functioning perfectly.
The glass shows no significant cleaning marks or fogging, providing clear and pristine optics. You can truly enjoy the outstanding image quality characteristic of the Hachigo Nikkor.
