※About rarity

Leica DIII Chrome. Known overseas as Model F or Leica III. Leitz's product code is AFOOV. This particular unit has a serial number in the 110,000 range, manufactured in 1933.

It was produced during the transition period from the black paint era, which started with the Leica Model A in 1925, to the dazzling chrome-plated body. According to Leitz's shipping records, chrome-plated Leica bodies began shipping in 1933. This unit is from the fourth lot of the 1933 Leica DIII chrome bodies, approximately the 300th unit, making it one of the very early models. At this time, black bodies were still overwhelmingly more common, but by around 1934, the production numbers for chrome bodies increased dramatically.

This particular unit is characterized by its highly glossy chrome plating. It is a so-called "shiny chrome." The shine of the plating on this unit is particularly strong, almost dazzlingly bright. It is the shiniest of the shiny✨️.

The Leica DIII is an upgraded version of the first rangefinder-coupled model, the DII, featuring strap lugs, diopter adjustment, and slow shutter speeds. It comes equipped with all the expected functions of a camera. The magnification of the rangefinder was increased from 1x in the DII to 1.5x. This well-maintained unit is also excellent for practical use.

There is a minor ding on one corner near the top cover's serial number, and a slight dent near the punched area around the tripod socket, which appears to be original from the time of manufacture. Other than these, it shows little signs of use and has a fairly clean appearance. Considering it is a DIII Shiny that has been around for over 90 years, it is in quite good condition.

It was overhauled in May 2024, and all parts operate smoothly. The viewfinder is clear and offers good visibility. All parts, including the vulcanite, are in their original condition.

For those who desire a shine that stands out from the rest, this unit is somewhat rare.
