※About rarity

Summicron 35mm f2, 2nd generation, with a 6-element design. Leica product code 11309. Serial number in the 2,540,000 range, manufactured in 1972. This is the version without apeture ring lever, produced by Leitz Canada. It features an E39 filter size.

The standard Summicron 6-element version is a 4-group, 6-element Gauss design. However, it has long been rumored that some lenses exist with a different optical construction. During disassembly and cleaning, this lens was confirmed to be one of those rare examples.

In the standard 6-element design, the second and third elements in the second group are cemented together. In this particular lens, they are not cemented, resulting in an independent 5-group, 6-element configuration, with all three front elements preceding the aperture blades being separate.

There is a small scuff on the paint at the base of the barrel and some paint loss on the helicoid knob, but overall, the exterior is in excellent condition.

This lens underwent a full overhaul in 2021. The 6-element version is known for issues like a loose aperture ring, but thanks to the meticulous servicing it received, it still operates smoothly today.

The glass is free of cleaning marks, haze, or other defects, offering a clear and bright view.

This is a lens you can enjoy using with confidence. While from the previous sale, sample images have been posted in the gallery. The photos were taken only near wide-open apertures, and I found the rendering to be impressively sharp for a 6-element Summicron at full aperture. Please take a look!
