A Summarit 50mm f1.5 for Leica M-mount. This is an early version with the product code SOOIA-M, serial number in the 1,330,000 range, manufactured in 1955. The distance scale features a slightly limited meter-only display. The filter size is E41, the same as the early version of the Summilux 35mm Steel Rim.
At maximum aperture, it delivers dreamy glow and bokeh, while stopping down by 1–2 stops significantly enhances contrast and resolution, resulting in a much sharper rendering. Further stopping down transforms it into an ultra-crisp performer. In recent years, the unique character of this classic lens has been reappreciated, leading to increased demand.
However, many Summarit lenses suffer from poor glass conditions, making it difficult to find a truly satisfying example. This particular lens is in remarkably clean optical condition for a Summarit, allowing you to fully enjoy its original imaging characteristics.
There are minor scratches and marks near the front barrel from attaching and removing the hood, but no major scratches or dents. The overall exterior remains in good condition.
In December 2024, the lens underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment. The often stiff aperture ring and helicoid now operate with exceptional smoothness, providing a satisfying user experience. The focus is accurate, and the rangefinder coupling works perfectly. The internal anti-reflective matte lacquer has also been meticulously reapplied, ensuring even tighter imaging performance.
There is some wear to the coating along the edge of the rear element, and the front element shows 2–3 very faint cleaning marks along with slight coating deterioration. However, none of these issues affect practical use or image quality. Overall, the glass is clear and in good condition for a Summarit. Results from practical testing were excellent.
The original front cap is included.
