A rare item, a hood for the Nikkor 28mm f3.5 with Nikon S mount. This is an early chrome-finished model. It is believed to have been supplied with the white barrel lens that appeared in 1952.
Screw-in type. It has a two-piece structure, allowing a Series 7 filter to be sandwiched in between. The front part is matte chrome, and the rear part is gloss chrome.
As is generally the case with Nikkor wide-angle lens hoods, it is difficult to find. It was not standard equipment with the lens and was available as an optional item. Nikkor wide-angle lenses have a conical shape that makes them less dependent on hoods, and they do not fit well in camera cases or lens cases, making them less convenient to use. Therefore, it is assumed that few people sought the hood, and only a very limited number were distributed.
Additionally, this early model hood only has a "JAPAN" engraving, making it unclear whether it was made by Nippon Kogaku. Unless one is very experienced, many would not realize that this hood is for Nikkor lenses and it would have been disposed of as an unbranded item.
Comes with the original box, which is a refreshing blue with a fabric crease pattern.
Like new condition. It appears to be unused. A hood that seems to have come from a time machine from the 1950s.
While it shows slight signs of aging, the original box is also in good condition. Perfect for your collection.
