FODIS rangefinder. A standalone rangefinder from Leitz, this early model features a small dial and is believed to have been manufactured in the late 1920s. It comes in black and nickel, with feet markings. The baseline length is 83mm, and the minimum measuring distance is 3 feet. The hexagonal logo, D.R.P. text, and various engravings are beautifully finished with silver inlay. The serial number is 3152.
This is a genuine rangefinder ideally suited for early Leica A models.
The rangefinder shows some paint loss and wear on the top and bottom surfaces due to use. However, even after over 90 years since its manufacture, the glossy piano black finish and inlay details remain well-preserved. There is some plating loss on the central part of the distance adjustment dial and minor scratches and wear on the outer edges.
Serviced in August 2024, the rangefinder's double image contrast is sharp and the optical performance is excellent. The genuine leather case, embossed with the hexagonal logo, is intact with no cracks, and the leather remains supple.
