Hektor 5cm, manufactured in 1933 with a serial number in the 160,000 range, features a chrome barrel. Leitz product code is HEKTORCHROM. The distance scale is marked in meters. Its optical construction consists of a modified triplet design with six elements in three groups, all cemented together. Uncoated. Despite its f2.5 aperture, it remains compact and lightweight, making it Leica’s first collapsible large-aperture lens. The helicoid number 2.
When used near maximum aperture, the lens delivers a wonderfully soft rendering with a distinctive old-lens character. Hektor lenses often suffer from improper refinishing or focus issues, especially when sourced from abroad, making them particularly challenging to acquire in good condition. This example, however, has been carefully maintained, ensuring excellent image quality, accurate rangefinder coupling, and smooth operation.
With its original condition well preserved, this rare lens allows photographers to experience the authentic rendering of the Hektor as it was intended. A true collector’s piece.
There are some minor signs of use, including light scuffs and fine abrasions on the collapsible barrel, but no noticeable scratches or dents. For a Hektor, this example is in remarkably clean condition.
Full serviced in 2025, the aperture ring and helicoid still operate with a smooth, refined feel, and the rangefinder coupling remains perfectly accurate. The internal anti-reflective matte coating inside the barrel has been carefully reapplied, enhancing contrast and rendering.
The front element has a few extremely faint cleaning marks and slight aging of the glass, but these have no significant impact on image quality. The lens remains free of haze, with glass that matches the excellent condition of its exterior.
Test results were outstanding. While the sample images are from the previous test session, they are available for viewing in the test gallery.
Includes a rare original flat shiny chrome front cap and a matching rear cap.
