First-generation Noctilux 50mm f/1.2. Leica product code: 11820. An early version from the 2,250,000 serial range, manufactured in 1968.
The Noctilux was introduced in 1966 as Leica’s first lens to incorporate aspherical glass. It features a 6-element, 4-group optical construction.
Named after the Latin words for night light, the Noctilux is designed to capture dim light with exceptional contrast reproduction. Its unique vignetting and bokeh create a distinctive and artistic rendering.
This particular piece has been fully serviced and is in excellent condition, complete with its original accessories.
There is slight paint loss on the helicoid ring, but aside from that, there are almost no signs of use, and the exterior remains clean. Even the typically wear-prone outer edge of the filter ring shows no noticeable usage marks. The dedicated hood is also in excellent condition.
Fully overhauled in March 2025. The aperture operation becomes slightly stiff around f/11 to f/16, but otherwise, all controls are smooth and provide a comfortable shooting experience. The rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned.
The lens has minor coating deterioration on an inner element due to aging, but this has no noticeable impact on actual photography. There are no significant cleaning marks, and for a Noctilux f/1.2, the glass is in remarkably good condition.
The rendering is outstanding, and test shots have been posted in our sample gallery. We hope you take a look.
Includes the Noctilux-specific 12503 hood, a Series 8 UVa filter, and a 14102P front cap, all in matching condition.
