The early Elmar 5cm f3.5, with a helicoid number of 3, features a meter-distance scale. It has a short barrel design and a nickel-plated body. The product code from Leitz is the distinguished ELMAR.
This lens, originally made by C.P. Goerz using optical glass from the 1920s Leica A-type model, has been later modified by Leitz to become a Leica screw mount with rangefinder coupling. The front element has been coated, likely by Leitz.
The helicoid is of the full-turn type, but this particular unit has been fixed by a repair specialist to ensure that the infinity lock pin does not protrude, allowing it to be used without interference with L/M adapters on Leica M-type cameras, including digital Leica M models. (If desired, the lens can be restored to its original state.)
There are some minor signs of use, such as light scuffing on the collapsing section, but no prominent scratches or dents. The lens has a dignified appearance with a certain degree of neatness, approaching its 100th year in active use.
The lens underwent a full overhaul in 2023, with the infinity lock pin secured during the process. Thanks to the meticulous servicing, the aperture and helicoid movements remain exceptionally smooth. The internal anti-reflective matte lacquer has been carefully reapplied, and with the benefit of the coating, sharper rendering is expected. The rangefinder coupling has been confirmed to be functioning properly, and the focusing is in excellent condition.
The lens has minor coating wear on the front element and very light cleaning marks on the rear element, but these should have no noticeable effect on real-world use. The test shots were also very favorable. I would be happy if you check out the test results.
The lens comes with both front and rear genuine caps. The front cap is made of brass, from the A-type era, and the rear cap is made of Bakelite, slightly more modern.
