2nd generation Summicron 35mm f2, the 6-element version. Leica product code: 11309. Manufactured in 1976 with a serial number in the 2.77 million range. This is the version without the goggles, made in Canada, with a filter thread size of E39.
Following the 8-element first generation, finding a well-preserved 6-element version has also become increasingly difficult.
While often overshadowed by the 8-element predecessor, the 6-element version is a lens packed with performance and charm. From its perfectly balanced helicoid rotation and comfortable focus tab to its slightly subdued color rendering and softer imaging, it excels in both handling and character. Weighing just 180g, it is lightweight and compact, making it an excellent match for Leica M cameras.
The lens barrel remains rich in black color overall, with only minimal paint loss on the edges. There are minor scratches at the base of the barrel, but otherwise, there are no significant marks, making this a very clean example of the 6-element version.
Fully overhauled in November 2024, the aperture and helicoid operate smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is precise.
When viewed under strong LED light, there is a faint and very minor deterioration in the coating on an internal element, but this has no noticeable impact on image quality. The glass is exceptionally clean for a 6-element version, with the original coating intact on all surfaces. Image test results were excellent.
Includes original front and rear caps.
