E39 Summaron 3.5cm f3.5 in M mount. 4 groups, 6 elements. Serial number in the 1.18 million range. Manufactured in 1954, its first year of release. Distance scale in meters. The filter size is E39, making it compatible with IROOA and ITDOO hoods. The Leitz code is SOONC-M.
The Summaron from this era, produced in Wetzlar, is known for its rich and creamy rendering. The dramatic vignetting adds to the old lens charm, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. The focus plane delivers high resolution and sharpness. This E39 version pairs exceptionally well with M-series Leica cameras!
This lens has been modified with a tab on the mount to display the 35mm frame lines. On models from the M2 onwards (including current digital M-series), the 35mm frame will appear.
There are few signs of use, and the overall appearance is clean. A full overhaul was completed in October 2024. The aperture and helicoid operation feel smooth, and the rangefinder coupling is perfect.
There is a single, deep scratch about 3mm long on the edge of the rear element. It's unfortunate, especially given the otherwise clean appearance. Even after testing under conditions that would accentuate the scratch's effect, there was no noticeable impact on image quality. We're offering it at a special price. Please see our test shots in gallery.
