2nd Generation Summilux 50mm f1.4, Black Chrome finish. The Leitz product code is 11114. With a serial number in the 2,620,000 range, this lens was manufactured in 1973. It features a 5-group, 7-element optical design.
As a newly designed second-generation model, it delivers sharper rendering at wider apertures while retaining the signature Summilux character. This results in a more stable and consistent performance, making it one of the quintessential Leica lenses experiencing a resurgence in popularity in recent years.
Despite its large f1.4 aperture, it is relatively lightweight and compact, weighing in at just 288g. Its black finish pairs beautifully with modern mirrorless cameras and digital Leica M models, making it a truly versatile lens. The Summilux 50mm f1.4 remains a quintessential standard lens from Leitz.
There is minor paint loss at the front of the barrel, likely from attaching and detaching the hood. However, the aperture and helicoid rings show minimal signs of use and remain in excellent condition. This second-generation Summilux is a pleasure to use.
In November 2024, the lens underwent a full overhaul, resulting in a silky-smooth operating feel across all functions. The rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned. When inspected under a powerful LED light, very slight coating deterioration can be seen near the edges of the inner elements, but it is so minimal that it has virtually no impact on image quality.
Included accessories are the original front cap, a plastic case, and the original box (without serial number).
