※About rarity

The second-generation Summilux 35mm f/1.4 lens, with the Leitz product code 11870. It was manufactured in Canada in 1974, with a production number of 2.68 million units. The lens consists of 5 groups and 7 elements and is known as one of Leitz's flagship wide-angle lenses, having been produced for over 30 years since the initial Steel Rim model. It features a black finish.

The lens produces soft and airy images when wide open, while stopping down delivers sharp images with a three-dimensional quality, maintaining a gentle atmosphere. Compared to the Summicron, the Summilux has finer lines and is known for its delicate rendering.

Its design beautifully complements the slim bodies of rangefinder cameras, making it a classic and iconic 35mm lens from Leica that has stood the test of time.

There is a tiny scratch on the edge of the lens barrel and slight paint wear on the edge of the helicoid, but overall, the lens exhibits very little signs of use and remains in excellent condition. The mount's plating shines brightly.

This lens underwent a full overhaul in October 2024. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the helicoid operates very smoothly, and the aperture ring has a pleasant tactile click. Many second-generation models have loose helicoids, but the operational feel of this one is exceptional.

When used with our Leica M10-P, it showed a slight tendency towards front focus at wide open but remains within the depth of field across all ranges. Stopping down by one stop results in perfect rangefinder coupling and stunning image quality.

The front element has minor signs of fungus in two areas, with slight coating deterioration visible under strong LED light, but this has minimal impact on shooting performance. The other glass surfaces are clear and exhibit excellent clarity.

The test shots yielded very favorable results. I hope you can check the sample images for reference; all were taken near wide open.
