The late-model Bergheil, a renowned handheld camera made by Voigtländer, is a plate-camera with interchangeable lenses. It uses 6.5x9 cm plates (large visiting card format) and was manufactured between 1932 and 1936. This particular model is the deluxe version with a striking green leather covering, and it is equipped with the excellent Heliar 12cm f/4.5 lens.
Included with the camera are a somewhat rare Tele-Dynar 200mm f/6.3 telephoto lens (with an old Compur shutter) and a Rollex film holder that accommodates roll film, making it a more versatile option for photographers. Also included are sheet film holders and a matching cable release, further enhancing the set.
With its exquisite craftsmanship and commanding presence, this Voigtländer Bergheil is a prime example of pre-war German engineering. It's a masterpiece that not only captures great images but also appeals to collectors with its beautiful design. Just looking at it evokes admiration, embodying the classic charm of the period.
This Voigtländer Bergheil, despite some minor wear and slight paint loss from use, remains in overall good condition with a clean appearance. The lens extends smoothly, and the camera presents a dignified and imposing look.
It underwent a professional overhaul in October 2024, where the finder, shutter, and other parts were carefully serviced. It is now operating smoothly, and the bellows have been checked for light leaks, ensuring everything is in top working condition.
However, please note that the two included lenses do not align with the distance scale on the guide rails. You will need to use the included ground glass to focus, but rest assured, focus can be adjusted accurately from infinity down to the closest distance.
Both the Heliar and Tele-Dynar lenses are in excellent optical condition, free from scratches or fogging. The glass is clear and sharp, ensuring great image quality. This camera offers both aesthetic appeal and excellent functionality for collectors and users alike.
