The original Summicron 35mm f2 with 8 elements, Leica code SAWOM (later 11308). It was manufactured in 1965, with a serial number in the 2.1 million range. Made in Germany, it has a minimum focusing distance of 0.7m and features an amber-colored coating.
Renowned for its exceptional image quality and the functional beauty typical of German engineering, this lens remains a classic wide-angle lens beloved across eras.
At full aperture, it provides a gentle, soft rendering. Stopping down slightly enhances the three-dimensionality, and further stopping down maintains softness while transitioning to sharp, precise rendering. It epitomizes Leica’s style and image quality, maintaining its esteemed reputation through the ages.
Compatible hoods are ITDOO or IROOA, and the filter thread size is E39. The lens comes with the original front and rear caps.
A small mark at the tip of the barrel and some scratches and minor marks around the filter thread. However, it remains in overall good condition with minimal signs of use.
It has been fully overhauled by a professional service in August 2024. The aperture and helicoid have been meticulously adjusted, resulting in a smooth operation with a well-balanced torque feel. The lens performs excellently with precise rangefinder coupling.
There are 2-3 very light cleaning marks on the front element, but these do not affect image quality. The glass is free from haze and has an impressive clarity. The coating is intact and the glass condition is excellent for an 8-element version.
With its overall good appearance and superb glass condition, this lens is ideal for anyone looking to shoot with a clean, classic 8-element Summicron.
