※About rarity

Leica M3. Late model single stroke. Serial number in the 1,050,000 range, manufactured in 1962. Leitz product code: IGEMO.

The Leica M3, introduced in 1954, boasts the Leica M mount for quick and secure lens changes, an exceptional viewfinder with a built-in rangefinder, a design perfected as a functional beauty, a robust body ensuring stable operation, and an unparalleled high-quality build that set Leitz's golden era. This late model has improved upon minor issues found in the early models and features a single-stroke winding mechanism.

The Leica M3 is the progenitor of subsequent models, including the M2, M4, M5, M6, M7, M8, M9, M10, and M11. Its iconic design instantly identifies it as a Leica M, with all its essential qualities embodied in the M3. For those using a 50mm lens, the M3 is still considered the best model due to its unparalleled viewfinder excellence.

There are minor scratches on the top cover and bottom plate due to regular use, but there are no significant dents or noticeable damage. The vulcanite and all parts are original from that time.

Overhauled by a specialist in August 2024, the winding mechanism and shutter dial operate smoothly. The viewfinder prism shows slight separation at the edges, a common issue with the M3, but the clarity remains unaffected. This is a well-maintained, practical camera, ready for use.
