Manufactured in 1932, this nickel-plated Hektor 50mm f2.5 lens has a serial number in the 140,000 range and is marked in meters. It features a 3-group, 6-element configuration. The Leitz product code is HEKTOR. The focusing mechanism is a half-turn helicoid. It has a challenging filter diameter of 21mm.
Originally a non-coated lens, it was later coated by Leitz. Its wide aperture offers a soft, characteristic rendering at full aperture, typical of large-aperture vintage lenses. However, this particular lens benefits from a light post-coating that also enhances its sharpness.
Hektor 5cm lenses are often noted for their unpredictable focus, imaging, and rangefinder coupling issues, but this unit operates smoothly with accurate rangefinder coupling, making it a standout example. Practical tests have shown excellent performance.
Original Bakelite front and rear caps are included with the lens.
There are minor scratches around the collapsing barrel and near the infinity lock, giving it a used appearance, though there are no prominent scratches or dents. This nickel-plated Hektor lens is quite clean for its type.
It underwent a full overhaul in June 2024, including focus adjustment. Careful maintenance has resulted in smooth operation of the aperture and helicoid, with precise rangefinder coupling. The interior of the barrel has been refinished with a matte lacquer to reduce internal reflections, enhancing overall image clarity.
The lens exhibits a few light cleaning marks on the front element and faint traces of fungus on the rear element, visible only under strong LED light but without affecting practical use. There are no haze or other issues, presenting a clean glass for the Hektor 50mm.
