Leica M2 early model, featuring the highly sought-after button rewind. This particular unit comes with a self-timer. Serial number in the 930,000 range, manufactured in 1958. Its code name is KOOHE.
This unit is from the third batch of Leica M2 production. All parts are original, and it features the large tripod thread. The bright-line frame displays 35mm, 50mm, and 90mm individually.
Being an early version of the M2 with push-button rewind, the rewind button does not lock, offering a distinct operating feel compared to other M models.
The slim, vertical slotted light window with inner ridges is also unique to early M2 models, giving it a more modern appearance compared to later versions. It’s an ideal camera to pair with a chrome wide-angle lens, such as a steel-rim Summicron or an 8-element lens, along with a Leicavit MP, perfect for street photography.
There is a thin scratch about 2cm long on the upper left of the lens mount, and small dings can be seen below the viewfinder eyepiece and near the wind lever on the front of the top cover. Other than some light scuffs on the bottom plate, the overall appearance is clean with minimal signs of use. The vulcanite is all original with no chipping or damage.
It underwent a full overhaul in 2022, with additional inspections carried out in 2023. The shutter and wind lever operate smoothly, and the viewfinder is bright and clear. It comes with an original sync cap from the same era.
