The final model of the Barnack Leica series, the Leica IIIg. The Leitz product code is GOOEF.
The serial number is in the 820,000 range, manufactured in 1956. The engraving of this IIIg's serial number is slightly different from the usual IIIg and resembles those made by Leitz Canada. The lots before and after this product include a mix of Canadian-made IIIf, IIIg, and M3 models, suggesting that this IIIg might be from a transitional period. The internal serial number engraved on the IIIg matches the top cover.
Sparing no expense in its design and manufacture, the high quality of this camera is mesmerizing even just to look at. It incorporates technology from the Leica M3, including parallax correction and built-in bright frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses. The clarity of the viewfinder is outstanding, making it arguably the most user-friendly among the Barnack Leica cameras.
This Leica IIIg is in excellent condition, showing no scuffs or scratches. The vulcanite also shows minimal wear, offering a smooth and comfortable grip. All parts are original with no missing pieces.
In April 2024, the shutter and other components were overhauled. The film advance, shutter, and self-timer operate smoothly and efficiently. The viewfinder is exceptionally clear, and the contrast of the double image is also very good.
This is a beautifully maintained Leica IIIg that is highly practical for everyday use.
