Manufactured in 1969 with the serial number 2.35 million, it features meter/feet dual scale markings. Normally, the product code for the Dual-Range Summicron is 11918, but this item bears the code 11318. In this final batch of the Dual-Range Summicron, there is a peculiar specification change noted: the vertical grooves at the base of the lens barrel have become finer. When used without glasses, the lens allows focusing down to 1m, but with glasses, close focusing is possible down to around 0.5m, simultaneously correcting for parallax. The impeccable precision and smooth operation of this lens exemplify the craftsmanship of Leitz products during their heyday. It's important to note that in digital Leica M cameras, this lens may interfere with the rangefinder due to its design. However, it functions seamlessly with the current M11 series. There are very slight signs of wear, but overall, it has been minimally used and is in excellent condition. Fully serviced in April 2024, both the aperture ring and helicoid provide a very satisfying tactile feel. Close-up photography, which requires precision, is stress-free. The rangefinder coupling is accurate, and focusing is excellent. The goggle elements is clear without any haze. While there are some signs of coating wear and roughness on the glass, particularly around the rear element, it should have minimal impact on real-world use. The coatings are fully intact. Test results also yielded excellent performance. It comes with clean genuine front and rear caps and a matching serial number original box. While the glass condition is not perfect, it still makes for a good addition to any collection.
