Leica M2-R, manufactured in 1969. The Leica M2-R can be considered the civilian version of the Leica M2S (CAMERA STILL PICTURE KS15-4), which was produced for the U.S. Army in 1966. While based on the Leica M2, it incorporates the rapid-loading mechanism from the M4.
Originally ordered by the U.S. military, the M2s were later canceled, and the civilian version was sold under the name M2-R by New York Leica. Only around 2,000 units were produced between 1969 and 1970, with serial numbers ranging from 1248201 to 1250200.
This particular item is a near-new, unused camera that has been carefully stored since being opened. It comes with the matching import certificate, M2-R manual, original vinyl bag and envelope with serial number, period packaging materials, and the original box. It is unlikely to find an M2-R in such condition anywhere else in the world.
The serial number of this camera features a unique pattern with the last four digits being 9999, making it a standout item for collectors.
The camera is in unused condition, with no signs of use other than being unboxed. The texture of the leather is crisp and the grip feels smooth. It is a beautifully pristine item that is almost too beautiful to touch.
It underwent an overhaul with the utmost care in 2024, and all functions are operating smoothly. The viewfinder is also exceptionally clear.
In flawless condition, this is a rare and exceptional item!
