※About rarity
This is a large-aperture medium telephoto lens made by Nippon Kogaku, the Nikkor-S·C 85mm f1.5. This particular model features the 'C' mark and is designed for the Contax RF mount, with a 3-group, 7-element construction. It is marked in feet. The lens was introduced in either 1951 or 1952. It is said that about 2,000 units of the Nikkor 85mm f1.5 were manufactured, including versions for the Nikon S, Leica, and Contax mounts. Due to its large aperture and telephoto design, the lens contains a substantial amount of glass, giving it a solid, weighty feel. It weighs 550 grams. The filter size is a 60mm screw-in. This particular unit has an EP mark on the mount stopper, which is an abbreviation for Exchange Post. This mark is said to have been stamped on cameras and lenses sold at Army and Navy Exchange Service stores (handled by Orient Trading) for the occupying forces. The black paint shows no signs of wear, and the lens barrel is very beautiful. It would be perfect if it came with the hood and hood cap—it’s a shame it doesn’t! It underwent a full service in 2024. The aperture and helicoid movements are very smooth. The lens's appearance is beautiful, with no scratches or cloudiness, and the glass is impressively clear. The softness near wide open adds a really nice atmosphere to the images. This lens is not only great for Contax bodies but also ideal for enjoying with modern high-resolution digital mirrorless cameras. It comes with an original plastic rear cap.
