Nikkor-P.C 8.5cm f2 in Leica screw mount. This particular piece is the early version with a chrome lens barrel, and the distance scale is marked in feet. It has a 3-group, 5-element design with a straight helicoid. The lens itself weighs 423g.
Although it is considered a copy of the Sonnar 85mm f2 for Contax rangefinders, this lens gained fame when *Life* magazine correspondent David Douglas Duncan used it during the Korean War. His high praise for the lens helped establish the reputation of Japanese lenses worldwide, making this a landmark lens in photographic history.
There are some very light scuff marks on the knurled part of the helicoid, but otherwise, there are no noticeable scratches, and the lens is in excellent cosmetic condition.
Overhauled in 2024, the aperture and helicoid operate smoothly.
The glass shows only minor coating wear, with no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, leaving the optics very clear. You can expect the lens to deliver the characteristic image quality of the Hachi-Go Nikkor.
Rangefinder coupling and focusing are spot on, producing sharp and powerful images even at maximum aperture. Truly impressive rendering!
Comes with a complete set of accessories, including the original hood, which is designed to accommodate a Walz Series 7 SL filter, as well as the original caps, finder, and case. The finder also has an "L" mark engraved on the bottom of the shoe.
An excellent choice for any collection!
