※About rarity

Collapsed barrel Summicron 50mm f/2. Serial number in the 1.21 million range, manufactured in 1954, the year of Leica M3's release. Product code SOOIC-M. Leica M mount. Lens construction features a 6-group 7-element modified Gauss type. Distance scale in feet. Filter size is E39. This lens uses thorium glass in the front element, showing slight yellowing confirmed by our Geiger counter. The radiation level is minimal but differs from later Summicron versions.

The collapsing barrel is slightly shorter compared to Summar and Sumitar lenses, giving it a unique appearance. At the time, it astounded the world with its overwhelming resolution, playing a crucial role alongside the introduction of the Leica M series in enhancing Leitz's reputation. Whether wide open or stopped down, it delivers superb image quality.

Original front and rear caps are included. The ITDOO hood would be the best match for this lens.

The filter ring edge shows minor marks, but it does not affect filter mounting. Otherwise, it maintains an overall quite clean appearance.

Fully serviced in 2021, and lens head overhaul performed in June 2024 for this resale. Aperture and focusing ring operate very smoothly, accurate rangefinder coupling, and good focus.

Under strong LED light, the glass reveals very shallow wiping marks on the middle element and slight coating marks resembling haze, though these have minimal impact on actual photography. Real-world testing results were also excellent.

Sample images are posted in the showroom. Whether in color or black and white, you can enjoy captivating images. It handles backlighting well, offering impressive contrast comparable to modern lenses.
