Leica A Early

Item No. 019997

※About rarity
Serial number in the 3100 range. This is a 1926/27 Leica Model A equipped with an early Elmar lens. The lens is a close-up Elmar with distance markings in feet. The release button is the mushroom type. The Gutta-percha has a rough texture that dates back to the Anastigmat era. The bottom cover features a latch-type lock. The lens plate is engraved with the small font Elmar, characteristic of early models, which adds a charming detail. This piece retains its original condition from the time. The degree of paint wear adds a deep flavor that evokes its history. While there are signs of wear appropriate for its age, it has maintained good condition despite being over 90 years old. Like the later iconic Leica M3, which saw many minor changes from the prototype to the very early models (700xxx, with and without corners), the Model A, being the original model of Leica, underwent rapid specification changes over a short period. Collecting numerous samples and verifying their evolution is indeed an enjoyable task. Comes with the original front lens cap. The early Elmar's nameplate shows signs of distortion correction, there's a slight dent in the center of the bottom cover, and some age-appropriate paint wear is visible on the bottom cover. Otherwise, there are no significant damages, and it appears to have been well-cared-for over the years. It underwent a service in April 2024. The winding and shutter operations are smooth, and the viewfinder is impressively clear. The early Elmar lens is in quite good condition for its age, showing no significant scratches or cloudiness, which is exceptional for a lens over 90 years old. This Leica Model A, serial in the 3000 range, has preserved its original Gutta-percha and exterior parts. It is an excellent addition to any collection, and the old Elmar still produces remarkably good images even after 90 years. As this is an early model with a mushroom release, you need to keep pressing the release button while rewinding the film (similar to the dimple release). Please enjoy your photography at a relaxed pace, respecting the traditional way of using this camera.
