※About rarity

Leica DII, serial number in the 170,000 range, manufactured in 1935. Leitz product code: LYCAN. A beautiful black paint and nickel finish. Known internationally as the Model D or Leica II.

The DII is the first Leica with a built-in rangefinder, making it a groundbreaking model in Leitz’s history. Compared to the later DIII, it lacks strap lugs, slow shutter speeds, and diopter adjustment, but its clean grip, simple appearance, and minimalist functionality are part of its charm. A beautifully preserved unit that would pair perfectly with a nickel lens in similar condition.

Hardly any paint wear is visible, and the nickel plating is in excellent condition. There are no dings or dents. Despite being nearly 90 years old, it exudes an aura of having been carefully preserved. There is some minor scuffing on the wind and rewind knobs, and a bit of brass showing on the edges of the black paint, but considering its age, it could easily be called an exceptional piece.

Fully overhauled in September 2024, with all functions working smoothly. The operation of the wind and rewind knobs is also silky smooth, and the viewfinder is clear. Comes with the original leather case. The tripod screw is nickel, and there’s a cutout for the slow shutter, suggesting it could be shared with the DIII, but for the DII without strap lugs, this is a welcome accessory.

A Leica DII that, while maintaining its condition, is perfect for both use and display, offering long-lasting enjoyment.
