Summilux 50mm f1.4, serial number in the 1.88 million range, manufactured in 1961. This particular lens is an early version of the second generation with a chrome barrel. Later, the second generation switched to a black barrel. This model inherits almost the same design as the first-generation chrome barrel. The coating is amber with a slight purple tint. The Leitz product code is SOOME, later 11114.
It has a 5-group, 7-element design. Although its appearance is nearly identical to the first-generation Summilux, the optical design was updated, resulting in improved sharpness near wide-open apertures. While the first generation is known for its unique softness, the second generation offers a perfect balance, adding just the right amount of sharpness at wide open, while still retaining some of the first generation's charm. It’s a beloved model with many fans, and even our staff, who regularly test lenses, highly praise it.
The filter size is E43, and it’s compatible with hoods XOOIM, 12521G, and 12586.
Other than a very slight scuff on the front edge of the barrel, there is almost no sign of use, and the lens maintains a very clean appearance. It underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment, in August 2024, and all operations feel smooth and refined. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.
There are some minor, tiny fungus marks on the rear element that couldn't be completely removed during cleaning. However, the lens has been thoroughly cleaned, and there’s no risk of the fungus spreading, with no noticeable impact on image quality. Additionally, there are no significant cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is crystal clear. The coating on all lens elements is well-preserved.
The test results were excellent. Sample images have been posted on our gallery. Even in indoor shots, the lens demonstrated ample brightness, with a pleasing balance between softness and sharpness.
The original box, matching serial number, plastic case, and a replica front lens cap are included.
