※About rarity
Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 75mm f1.5 is a high-speed medium telephoto lens known for its characteristics such as preset aperture and a sturdy, thick barrel, which are typical of the post-war late type. This particular lens, with a manufacturing number of 482xxxx, was produced in 1956. It features a 4-group 6-element Double Gauss design, with markings for both meters and feet. Constructed with an aluminum barrel, it has a minimum focusing distance of 80cm and 10 aperture blades. The Biometar 75mm has been manufactured over a long period, evolving from the slim brass-barrel non-coated version of the late 1930s. This model is one of the most commonly encountered types. In recent years, a surprising revival edition has been released, maintaining its enduring popularity. Known for its moist yet sharp rendering in the center of the frame, swirling bokeh, and excellent color rendition, it offers a unique three-dimensional atmosphere ideal for portrait photography. Some minor wear is visible, but there is no significant corrosion on the aluminum barrel, making it quite a clean appearance for an aluminum-barreled Biometar. Fully serviced in April 2024, the aperture ring and helicoid movement have become very smooth. There are a few very thin wiping scratches on the front element, and some bubbles typical of Biometar lenses from the manufacturing process, but there are no prominent scratches or haze, making the glass quite clean for this lens. Test shooting results were also excellent.
