Item No. 022732

※About rarity
West German-made Contax IIa, produced in Stuttgart from 1950 to 1961. The Zeiss product code is 563/24. This particular item is an early model of the Contax IIa. The shutter speeds are marked in black only, hence it is also known as the Black Dial. The early models of the IIa were produced from 1950 to 1954. The helicoid is marked in feet. While it cannot accommodate the pre-war Biogon 35mm f2.8 with its protruding rear element, it is compatible with a wide range of other rangefinder Contax lenses, making it a captivating model. The accompanying lens is a Carl Zeiss-branded Sonnar 50mm f1.5. This piece is a rare model featuring the ZEISS IKON logo located below the distance adjustment dial on the front left of the body. It was released in 1951 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of ZEISS IKON in 1926, making it somewhat rare. The bottom cover has concentric circular scratches from tripod attachment and detachment, and there is some paint wear at the tip of the Sonnar lens, but overall, it is a rather clean specimen. Both the body and lens were serviced in 2024. All parts are functioning well, and the viewfinder is impressively clear. The lens has two very small traces of fungus on the front element and some coating wear on the middle element, but these should not affect image quality. With the overhaul complete, it is ready to be used extensively. It comes with the original front cap, an English manual, and a beautiful leather case.
