The third-generation Summicron-M 50mm f2. Serial number in the 3,450,000 range, manufactured in Germany in 1987. The lens was renamed Summicron-M, adopting the naming convention still used today. The Leitz product code is 11819. Designed by Walter Mandler, its optical construction was revised from the 5-group, 6-element design of the second generation to 6 elements in 4 groups.
Despite its relatively fast f2 maximum aperture, the lens has a compact design and is lightweight, weighing just 197g as measured. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7m, and the filter size is E39. Improved color balance and contrast reproduction make this a particularly practical and versatile lens.
This example was officially imported and distributed in Japan by Siebel Hegner. It comes complete with its original box and warranty card, both bearing matching serial numbers, as well as the leather case and genuine Leitz lens hood. The lens itself is also in like-new cosmetic condition. A fine example, well suited for a collection.
The deep black finish of the lens barrel is truly beautiful. Showing no signs of use, this lens is quite literally in like-new condition.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was completed in October 2026. The aperture ring and focusing helicoid operate exceptionally smoothly, and rangefinder coupling is also excellent.
There is very slight coating deterioration on an internal lens element, barely visible even under a strong LED light, and a single extremely fine, hairline-like balsam separation on the rear element. Neither is expected to have any noticeable effect on actual photographs.
Comes with the original box, warranty card, leather case, lens hood and hood cap, genuine Leitz UVa filter, and rear cap.
