The Leica M5 Chrome, an M-series camera particularly appreciated by connoisseurs. This is the later three-lug version, with three strap lugs. Serial number in the 1.35 million range, manufactured in 1973. The Leitz product code is 10501.
The M5 features a highly legible match-needle exposure meter built into the viewfinder. The shutter speed dial is positioned so that it can be operated naturally with a finger while holding the camera to the eye, allowing the photographer to shoot without looking away from the viewfinder. A remarkably user-friendly model. Although the body is larger than those of the Leica M4 and earlier models, its handling and grip are exceptional.
The chrome M5 also pairs beautifully with classic chrome-plated lenses such as the Summicron and Summilux.
There is some rubbing on the rear of the top cover and some fading on the strap lug on the film advance lever side, but otherwise, there are few signs of use. A very clean M5 overall.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. The exposure meter works properly, the view through the finder is crisp and clear, and the film advance feels excellent.
The M5 has a distinctive design that may not appeal to everyone, but it is a superb camera that fully embodies the qualities of an M-series Leica. Thoroughly serviced and in excellent working order, this is an M5 that will allow you to fully appreciate its original charm and capabilities!
