Nikkor-S.C 5cm f1.4 in Leica screw mount.
This is the later version with a black-painted aperture ring, commonly known as the Black Band version. Distance scale in feet. This Nikkor was supplied for Japanese Leica copies such as Leotax. It shares the same 7 elements in 3 groups optical construction as the 50mm f1.4 for Nikon S rangefinder cameras, based on the Sonnar design.
The rangefinder coupling works down to approximately 3.5 feet, or about 1 meter. From there, the helicoid can be extended further for close-up focusing from approximately 3.5 feet down to a minimum distance of 1.5 feet, or about 45cm. The rangefinder is not coupled within this close-focus range, so focusing must be done by estimation or with live view. In the digital era, however, this makes the lens surprisingly practical to use.
From wide open to f2, it produces a characterful and quite soft rendering. By f4, the image changes dramatically and becomes remarkably sharp. A truly enjoyable lens to use.
This is an item previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by the previous owner and has now returned to us.
There are only a few very minor rub marks on the barrel, with no noticeable scratches or dents. The chrome plating retains a beautiful shine, giving the lens a very clean appearance.
The aperture and helicoid rings operate smoothly. Focus is accurate, and rangefinder coupling works perfectly.
There is some slight deterioration of the coating on an inner element, but this should have virtually no effect on image quality. Our test shots produced very good results. You can fully enjoy the character of this lens, with its delicate yet soft rendering wide open and its crisp, sharp look when stopped down.
Sample images from our previous sale of this lens are available in our Test Shoot Gallery. We hope you will take a look.
