Reissue Elmar-M 50mm f2.8 in black finish. Leica M mount. Product code 11831.

The Elmar was revived in 1994 as the standard lens for the Leica M6J, rekindling the popularity of this long-loved Leica lens. In 1995, production of the Elmar as a standalone lens began, and this reissue version became a regular part of the Leica lens lineup.

This example has a serial number in the 3.78 million range and was manufactured in 1997. No 6-bit coding. While its design recalls the classic Elmar 5cm f2.8, it incorporates major improvements, including a straight helicoid focusing mechanism.

The infinity lock of the original was eliminated, giving the lens a cleaner and simpler appearance. The minimum focusing distance was also greatly improved to 0.7 meters, allowing much closer focusing than the original version. Weighing only 167g, its compact and lightweight construction is another attractive feature.

While retaining the classic collapsible design, it has a more modern overall look and finish, making it an excellent match for both current Leica M cameras and digital M models.

Originally sold by our shop, this item has been carefully used by the previous owner and has now returned to us.

It remains in the same excellent condition as when we last sold it. There are virtually no signs of use, and at first glance it would be difficult to distinguish it from a brand-new example. It will also pair beautifully with a clean camera body.

All functions are working properly, and rangefinder coupling is spot on.

Under close inspection with an LED light and magnifier, there is an extremely slight trace of balsam separation along the edge of the rear element, but this should have virtually no effect on actual photography. Otherwise, the glass is clear and bright, with no haze or scratches. Our test shooting also produced excellent results.

Comes with the leather case, 12550 hood, 13131 UVa filter, and original rear cap.
