Canon 25mm f3.5. Introduced in 1956, when Canon was actively developing lenses for the Leica screw mount, this ultra-wide-angle lens features a 5-element, 3-group optical design. At the time of its release, it was the fastest ultra-wide-angle lens available. The distance scale is marked in feet.
At full aperture, the lens delivers remarkably sharp images in the center, while sharpness gradually falls off toward the edges, producing photographs with a distinctive character.
Canon's vintage wide-angle lenses often have a particularly appealing rendering. One welcome feature of this 25mm lens is that it produces no color casts even when used on digital Leica M cameras.
With its slim, compact design, it is easy to slip into a camera bag and ideal for spontaneous snapshots. A fine companion for an autumn trip!
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used and looked after by its former owner. It remains in much the same condition as when we last sold it, with virtually no signs of use and a very clean exterior.
Under the previous ownership, the lens underwent a thorough overhaul by a professional technician. Thanks to this careful servicing, both the aperture and focusing helicoid now operate with a beautifully smooth, well-damped feel. The anti-reflective black coating inside the rear section of the lens barrel has also been carefully reapplied. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The front and middle elements show a few extremely faint cleaning marks, visible only under strong LED light, but these should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. Otherwise, the glass is beautifully clear, with no haze. Test shooting also produced excellent results.
At or near full aperture, the lens produces images with a refined, delicate softness and pronounced vignetting. Stopping down by around three stops makes the vignetting more gradual and noticeably increases contrast.
Comes with an original UV filter and original front and rear caps.
