This classic Leica wide-angle lens has been loved for decades and has gained renewed appreciation in recent years. It is also the second thinnest lens in the Leitz lineup, surpassed only by the Hektor 28mm. Its compact size makes it highly portable, whether mounted on a Barnack Leica or an M-series Leica. Easy to slip into your camera bag as an extra lens!
Wide open, it produces atmospheric images with characteristic corner darkening. Although a straightforward design, it reveals surprising depth of character with continued use, making it a lens that never gets boring.
This example features a pale coating, which should provide more controlled rendering in backlit situations and brightly lit scenes.
Compatible hoods include the FLQOO and FOOKH. Our original FB-07 Elmar hood, featuring a built-in aperture adjustment mechanism, can also be used.
There is a dent on one section of the mount, but it was carefully corrected during the recent overhaul and does not interfere with mounting the lens on a camera or adapter.
There are also minor scuffs here and there, but no noticeable scratches. The chrome plating remains in good condition with a beautiful shine. Considering its 80 years of age, the lens is in remarkably nice cosmetic condition.
Fully overhauled in October 2026, including focus adjustment. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture ring, helicoid, and other mechanisms now operate very smoothly. The matte black lacquer inside the lens has also been carefully reapplied to reduce internal reflections, promising improved contrast. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.
There are a few extremely faint cleaning marks on the glass, but they should have virtually no effect on actual images. Otherwise, the glass is clear and bright, with no fungus or haze. Test shooting also produced good results.
