A very beautiful example of the Super-Angulon 21mm f4. Leitz product code SUMOM, later changed to 11002K.
Serial number in the 1.67 million range, manufactured in 1959. Optical construction of 9 elements in 4 groups.
Although bearing the Leitz name, this ultra-wide-angle lens was manufactured by Schneider. Incidentally, some Super-Angulon lenses bear Schneider serial numbers, but these are quite rare and sought after by collectors.
The lens has a Leica M mount, but by removing the set screws and detaching the coupling ring, it can also be used as a Leica screw-mount lens. The minimum focusing distance is 0.4m, with rangefinder coupling from 1m.
Paired with the original IWKOO hood, it makes a particularly stylish combination. Please note that color casts may appear around the edges of images when used on digital Leica M cameras other than the M11.
This is an exceptionally fine example of the first-generation Super-Angulon, rarely encountered in such beautiful condition, both externally and optically.
Most examples of the first-generation Super-Angulon 21mm f4 show considerable signs of use, but this particular lens is exceptionally well preserved, with no noticeable scratches or scuffs. Its exterior is in remarkably beautiful condition.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. The aperture and focusing helicoid have been carefully adjusted to provide smooth operation with just the right amount of torque. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.
The glass is beautifully clear, with no haze. There is some very minor coating deterioration, barely visible even under strong LED light. Considering that so many examples of the Super-Angulon 21mm suffer from significant haze, the glass condition of this lens is exceptionally good. The original coatings remain well preserved on all optical surfaces.
Comes with genuine Leica front and rear caps and a UVa filter with black lettering.
A rare opportunity to acquire an example in such exceptional condition!
